Creativity All Around Us

Where: My Classroom

How does this space make me feel: currently, overwhelmed (long day). Usually, it makes me feel calm and ready for what’s next.

How it inspires my creativity: by providing me with a blank canvas to transform for myself and my students. What I have been given, I have turned into a safe and welcoming spot that escapes the confines of a typical classroom.

How it dampens my creativity: by forcing restrictions of school-wide conformity for certain things.

Being in this space impacted my personal creativity by: putting up walls. I was in a work-mode. I was feeling overwhelmed and stressed so I tried to choose items that would lessen that stress (less child-based, more me-based).

My optimal learning environment: is one that takes me out of my head. I need a space that is flexible and comfortable. I need to be able to stay alert, but have opportunities to wind down and be mindful when needed. For me, being in nature allows me to escape, so the space I was in (my classroom) is built to resemble a jungle. It’s enjoyable for the students, but it’s also something I created for myself.

Creativity to me is: the harnessing of imagination and bringing into reality.
